Special honors

Our depth of experience includes leadership positions at such prestigious centers as the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas; and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.

The team includes medical oncologists, thoracic surgical oncologists radiation oncologists, radiologists, pulmonary care specialists, Cardiothoracic surgeons and pathologists.

Conditions treated

  • Patients with previously untreated cancers of the chest (diagnosed or suspected; local-regional)
  • Patients considered for two or more concurrent therapies
  • Patients limited pulmonary function who would otherwise be candidates for surgical therapy
  • Patients have undergone surgery for malignancies of the chest within six weeks before being seen at the institute
  • Patients interested in participating in a clinical trial
  • Patients who specifically request being seen by the multidisciplinary team to initiate treatment or for a second opinion

Symptoms, treatment options and diagnosis depend on the type of cancer:

  • Lung cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Mesothelioma

What our team provides

  •  On the day of appointment, each patient receives personal attention from the Thoracic Oncology Team staff person and the appropriate team member.
  • A team physician evaluates the patient, reviews all records, requests any needed additional testing and presents the case to the multidisciplinary team.
  • After the team conference, this physician shares the team’s recommendations with the patient and family members. If other testing is required or if other specialists need to be seen as part of the proposed therapy those appointments are made the same day or as soon as convenient for the patient.
