Minimally invasive surgery

Wayne State University Physician Group offers minimally invasive surgery for many surgical procedures. Unlike traditional open procedures, our surgeons use a tiny telescope-like instrument connected to a small video camera or a light source to see inside the body. Video monitors in the operating room show the surgical field. This allows the surgeon to use tiny tools and small incisions to diagnose and repair surgical problems.

Minimally invasive simply means that during surgery there is minimal damage to the patient, allowing faster recovery.

Benefits of minimally invasive surgery

The benefits of minimally invasive surgical techniques include:

  • Less scarring
  • Small incisions
  • Less bleeding
  • Fewer complications
  • Reduced pain
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster recovery
  • Lower risk of infection
