Spinal Surgery

Wayne State University Physician Group Neurosurgery Services offers a comprehensive, complex spine and reconstruction service. Over the past decade, there has been an explosion in the types and varieties of operations for trauma, as well as degenerative conditions. We perform minimally invasive, maximally effective procedures for disc related problems and percutaneous fusions. Complex reconstructive procedures, using the latest instrumentation techniques, are used in conjunction with our general surgical colleagues, when possible.

Frequently Treated Spinal Conditions

  • Herniated Disc-Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Scoliosis
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Radiculopathy
  • Spondylolisthesis/Spondylolysis and Spinal Instability
  • Vertebral Fracture
  • Spinal Tumors
  • Post-Laminectomy Syndrome/Failed Back Syndrome

Minimally Invasive Procedures

For patients requiring surgical treatment, our neurosurgeons have pioneered minimally invasive approaches utilizing the most advanced surgical equipment. This requires much smaller incisions and less muscle dissection to allow for quicker recovery, shorter hospital stay, and less post-operative pain.

  • Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar microdiscectomy
  • Artificial Disc Replacement-Both Cervical and Lumbar
  • Complex Spinal Reconstruction-Deformity correction (scoliosis/kyphosis), cervical decompression, spinal tumor removal/debulking, spinal trauma.
  • Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar Instrumented Fusion-Posterior, Anterior, and Extreme Lateral approaches.
  • Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty
